2004 Changes

December 2004:

Note: There were no updates in October or November to a conspiracy of circumstances, including illness, overbooking of my weekends, and most significantly, an automobile accident involving my father that resulted in his death on November 11, 2004. See [LJ User] grandpa_a for further details. These December updates are dedicated in his memory.

Added updated information on El Camino Real, provided by Keith Robinson, Principal Landscape Architect, Landscape Architecture Program Division of Design of Caltrans.

Did the usual round of link updates. As I've noted before, I find I'm reading MTR less and less, especially as I get more active blogging. If you move your site, please let me know if you want the fix relatively quick.

Added some map and map links to the Southern California Map pages. This included adding links to PDF for the 1956 Master Planning Map for Southern California ([PDF] Link, 1.5MB) and the 2003 System Status Map ([PDF] Link, 4MB). Thanks to Dana Gabbard for forwarded me these maps.

For the hell of it, started a blog at livejournal, called Observations Along The Road. Added a link to the blog to the front page and to the About Daniel Faigin page (which used to be my Pacificnet home page). The URL is http://www.livejournal.com/users/cahwyguy/. I'm thinking about adding a forum to cahighways.org, in order to collect FAQs. Please let me know if you have any opinions on this.

Began incorporating my backlog of emails and observed material. Did the usual link updates that were announced on misc.transport.road. Please, if you change your site's location, either announce it there or send me email.

Reviewed the February, April, and May CTC Agenda for items of interest. Note that the March 2004 meeting had been cancelled. Noted the following items of interest:

April 2004:

First and foremost…: Given the problems that have been surfacing at Pacificnet (inability of the system administrators to restore the shell machine, as well as an inability to provide a reliable news feed), moved the site to a new hosting provider (www.westhost.com), and eliminated the URL redirection domain. Please let me know if there are any problems with the new domain. Please correct any of your websites or bookmarks to refer to www.cahighways.org, and not www.pacificnet.net/~faigin/CA-HWYS/. Note that this didn't affect any other redirection domains under cahighways.org.

Updated specific highway information on the following routes, based on the contributions of information from Gary Araki(10), Chris Sampang(5), and research based on pointers provided by correspondants:Route 4, Route 87(10), I-80(5), US 101(5).

Note: Updates for the next few months may be sporadic, as my weekends are pretty busy and that is my only update time. Trust me: If you have sent me an update, I have squirreled it away, and will address it in due time.

March 2004:

Did a pass to eliminate broken and outdated links. As part of this, did an update to the look of the regional links pages. Added new sites based on postings on m.t.r. Note that, at times, my connection to m.t.r is tenuous. To ensure your site gets updated, please send your site update information to updates -at cahighways -dot org (please make the necessary address translations, mublefrotz spammers).

Updated specific highway information on the following routes, based on the contributions of information from Gary Alexander(6), Eric Armourer(5), Mike Long(2), Chris Sampang(11), Larry Scholnick (10), Sean Tongson(9) and my own research: Route 4(2), Route 58(11), Route 85(9), Route 88(11), Route 99(6), Route 107(10), Route 125(5), Route 132(11), Route 152(9), Route 156(9), Route 170(10), Route 180(11), Route 203(11), Route 275(11), US 40(11), US 101(11), US 199(11), US 395(11), I-10.

Added a link to Chris Sampang's excellent map (http://members.aol.com/calvin972/sacramento.gif) detailing the routing and signage history of all Sacramento routes. This will be found on my page on The History of Sacramento Freeway Development. I'll note that Chris sends me lots of updates regarding Sacramento history, including lots of information that doesn't make it onto this site for various reasons (usually, because it is city street related or because it is at too low a level for this site). If you need to know the history of Sacramento, contract Chris (Calvin972 -at aol -dot com).

Updated the legislative information page.

February 2004:

Most of the items involved moving local funds to replace state funds on projects; changing the schedule of projects; and in a few cases (such as Route 43, Route 71), deprogramming funds and suspending the project (primarily, these were widenings). There were two relinquishement resolutions, both held over from December:
