(meme) Because I Must

Snarfed from talonvaki:

Reply to this entry and I will…

  1. Tell you why I friended you.
  2. Associate you with something – fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc.
  3. Tell you something I like about you.
  4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
  5. Ask something I’ve always wanted to know about you.
  6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
  7. In return, you must post this in your LJ.

(P.S.: I’m sort-a disappointed that no one responded to my post asking about podcasts. Hint. Hint.)

Brain Weasel Stomping on Friday

Snarfed from otaku_tetsuko, today’s birthday girl.

Wow – what is it in the air lately? Post after filtered post about how everyone is feeling alone, disconnected, unwanted. It’s not like this is one or two people – it’s like a rash all over my friends list the past few days. Male, female, betwixt, undecided, unconcerned…it seems to be an equal opportunity Brain Weasel Invasion.

Clearly, something needs to be done.

I think we need to have a Brain Weasel Stomping Day.

The problem, as I’ve noted before, is “it’s easier to see the Weasels when they’re eating someone else’s brain.”

So. This is my call to my friends list, and to your friends list, and beyond. This Friday, make an effort to squish someone’s Brain Weasel.

Have a crush on someone? Post a flirty comment in their journal. Admire someone’s skills? Post a comment about it. Just think a person is nifty? This Friday is the time to tell them.

Doesn’t matter if the post you’re commenting to doesn’t have much to do with your comment. Just post those good thoughts. Trust me. People will appreciate it.

Do this for everyone – not just those you suspect are feeling down (After all, you might not be on their Brain Weasel filter). Take a few minutes and help launch people into the weekend with a smile.

And…who knows? Maybe sharing how others make you happy will make you a bit more cheerful in return.

It’s worth a try.

N V Meme

Because I need something positive today… as snarfed from deedeebythebay, gyesika, underpope, and others…

We all have things about our friends that make us slightly envious.

Not in a bad way, but in a ‘Wow! I wish I had that person’s hair/eyes/money/relationship/toenails/whatever.’

So tell me what about me makes you envy me. . . then if you feel like it, post this in your LJ and see what makes me envious of you.

(meme) Suppose You Were Bunbury?

I was reading the “Roar of the Crowd” newsletter at Goldstar Events (a great place for ½ price tickets in Los Angeles). It was discussing the play “Bunbury: A Serious Play for Trivial People“, which is described as follows:

When he discovers that he is only a fictitious character in The Importance of Being Earnest, Bunbury joins forces with Rosaline, Romeo’s never-seen obsession from Romeo and Juliet. Together, they use their anonymity to infiltrate and alter classic literature, starting by accidentally giving Romeo and Juliet a happy ending. The resulting transformation of such classics as The Three Sisters, A Streetcar Named Desire, Waiting for Godot, and even Edgar Allan Poe’s THE RAVEN spawns a new sub-discipline in literary criticism and may even change the world.

This raised a question in my mind, which I’ll pose as a meme and invite you to ask in your blogs:

If you could be a fictitious character in any piece of literature, and be able to infiltrate and change the story, who would you be (and why), and what would you do or change?

I’ll give you my answer after I’ve thought about it for a while.

(meme) Tell Me More / Tell Me More / But You Don’t Gotta Brag

This morning, we have a meme prepared by tsgeisel, underpope, transitfan, and barelyproper. Although I buried this in my last “Friends Only” post, I’m repeating it more explicitly here, now that I’m getting caught up.

I know very little about some of the people on my Friends Of list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I’ve met at work, some gaming, some on my mailing lists, and some only through LJ. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here’s a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: “Ah, there’s so and so…she likes dangling puppies by their ears, like a former president.”

C’mon. You know you want to share something.
