Bud Is No Longer The Frump He Used To Be

Today’s news brings a report of the passing of Charles Nelson Reilly, an under-appreciated character actor in the field. This is a man who, behind the scenes, did a lot to advance the craft of acting.

Growing up, I know of Charles Nelson Reilly when I started watching the reruns of the sitcom “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, in which he c0-starred (and which had great theme music). Here are the opening credits of the show to remind you:

Charles Nelson Reilly was also well known for his work on the game show “Match Game”, where he was always good for a laugh:

Others will remember CNR from “Liddsville”, a Sid and Marty Krofft childrens series:

CNR had another side. He was an accomplished stage actor, originating the role of “Bud Frump” in “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying”; as well as the role of “Cornelius Hackl” in “Hello Dolly!”. He later made a film about his life. He also had a long career as a director, and was well known behind the scenes.

RIP, Charles Nelson Reilly
