Blue Light Special. Aisle 12.

Are you into garage sales? Estate sales? Rummage sales? Well, I’ve got a sale for you. According to the Chicago Tribune, Sears Holdings Corp. is holding a garage sale at the former Kmart headquarters in Troy MI to clear out everything from staplers to file cabinets. Items offered for sale included hundreds of chairs, tables, office supplies, commercial kitchen equipment and apparel. Madison Marquette, a Washington, D.C.-based developer (the same folks that did Bay Street in San Francisco), bought Kmart’s headquarters in December. Its plans for the 40-acre site include a luxury hotel, shops, upscale condos, offices and entertainment outlets. However, these supplies aren’t on Sears-Ebay. Prices and products are, ummm, great: rolodexes from the 1970s, burnt-orange office chairs, $79 file cabinets, 50c binders marked “Holiday 2003”, $2.99 staplers, $4.99 in/out boxes, $75 computers and aisles of $149 tables. Employees had the first chance to buy merchandise; it was extended to the public this week. It’s unclear how long it will last.

Alas, none of this stuff is on the internet. However, both the blue light and the aisle are available.
