A few select items gathered over the week:
- From the “Jumped the Shark” Department: An interesting “First Person” piece in the LA Times from the fellow who penned the Happy Days’ “Jump the Shark” episode (which was actually titled “Hollywood 3”), arguing (a) that it was a good episode, and (b) wasn’t the place where the series, umm, jumped the shark.
- From the “She Wore an Itty-Bitty…” Department: One of the most popular articles this week has been an article discussing where to find lingerie for the small-busted crowd, and the comments (as usual) are quite interesting. Related to this, I caught the tail end of a documentary on BBC America about small breasts. First, I’ll note that I enjoy watching women (hell, all people) of all shapes and sizes: I believe beauty isn’t confined to a particular body type. But seeing the confluence of these two makes we wonder: societal tastes tend to be cyclical: large is in for a while, then small. Long hair, then short. Is this just a coincidence, or is society changing again. I, for one, just wish people would accept the fact they are beautiful as they are.
- From the “Revenue Enhancement” Department: Another interesting article in the LA Times, this time about how hotels are making less money on telephone and on-demand movie fees, thanks to cell phones and the Internet. I know I rarely use a hotel phone, and have never watched on-demand movies. I don’t even use my company’s long-distance number anymore, just using my cell and it’s free long distance. Perhaps this is why, in the high-end hotels, the internet access fees are rising.
