A Birthday Song for Fauxklore

OK, Folks, you know the drill. Allright everyone, let’s gather in front of our large, 13″, Black and White TV set, and watch as a tall, lanky man in a khaki uniform strides out and introduces himself as Sheriff John. He sits down behind a piano, sets a brandy snifter on top, and starts to play the song “Another Candle”, from Jerry Herman’s first musical “Parade”, for fauxklore:

The girls at the office chipped in again
And bought me a new spring hat.
The boss bought the cake,
and dad sent the same bouquet.
It’s all the same as last year,
and the year before that.
Many happy returns of the day.

Another candle on the cake.
Let’s have a toast.
Let’s give a cheer.
Let’s sing, “Happy birthday, dear me”
Let’s sing, “Have another empty year.”

I dream the same old dream each night.
That in his arms I’m safe and strong.
‘Tho that dream can make me believe
In those arms, at last, I belong.
What will I have when I awake?
Another candle on the cake.

    Another birthday rushes by.
Sing, “Stand up and show us your face.”
“Show us that brand new
light beneath your eyes”

I dream the same old dream each night.
That in his arms I’m safe and strong.
‘Tho that dream can make me believe
In those arms, at last, I belong.
What will I have when I awake?
Another candle on the cake.

[Did you know you can pick which song the Sheriff sings for you on your birthday? It’s easy. Just visit the 6th Annual Birthday Poll on Livejournal (FB users: you can now log into LJ with your FB ID and vote in the poll!). Note that if you want the birdie to be able to inform the Sheriff about your birthday, you need to make sure your birth month and day is in your LJ or FB profile, and it is visible to your friends. Note that the Sheriff only sings a song if I know you personally or you’re a regular commenter. So don’t lurk!]
