🛣 Updates to the California Highways Web Pages – March 2019

It is time for the first update of the year. This is a normal update to the naked eye; however, it is notably the first update after doing a tech-refresh at home. In other words, this update is being done with my new HP Envy 17 laptop, after years of updates done with my trusty Toshiba A665. The intended remodeling is still planned, but I need time to (a) read my responsive design book, and (b) pick a design that I like. As I’ve noted before, I have no plans to change the content or my method of content generation. I have settled on my replacement editor for HoTMetaL Pro: BlueGriffon. as it seems to have a good tag manipulation mode. I also plan to use Pinegrow to check the responsive design aspects. and plan to continue to use Amaya as the main editor (even though Amaya seems to be abandonware). You can see my thoughts on what I would like from the redesign here; it also explains how the site is generated.

Thanks to Keilah Keiser, removed some broken links from the links page. Went through and updated all the regional links. If you identify any links that are bad, please let me know — they haven’t been checked in a long time. Kudos to those folks that kept their pages up or had redirects. Boos to those who took down their pages, abandoned their sites, or didn’t tell me when things moved. Surprisingly, all those Angelfire sites are still up. Tripod and Geocities, not all that much. I also went through and changed all the Sure Why Not? blog links to Gribblenation.org blog links. I also went through the Road Links on AAroads, which resulted in more changes and confirmations for all the links on the highway resources page, as well as updates to regional links.

Added some additional map sources to the maps page.

Reviewed the Pending Legislation page, based on the new California Legislature site. As usual, I recommend to every Californian that they visit the legislative website regularly and see what their legis-critters are doing. Although numerous bills have been introduced, none have gone to the Governor for signature yet. As many people are unfamilair with how the legislature operates (and why there are so many “non-substantive changes” and “gut and amend” bills), I’ve added the legislative calendar to the end of the Pending Legislation page.

I checked the CTC Liaison page for the results of the CTC meetings from December 2018 through March 2019 (2018-12-05/06, 2019-01-30/31, 2019-03-13/14). Note that I tend not to track items that do not impact these pages — i.e., pavement rehabilitation or replacement, landscaping, drainage, culverts, roadside facilities, charging stations, or other things that do not impact the routing or history, unless they are really significant. The purpose of this project is to prevent further deterioration of the three culverts that would cause culvert and pavement failure.

The project proposes to seismically retrofit the Mokelumne River Bridges (No 29-0197 R and L), the Paintersville Bridge (No. 24-0053) and the North Sacramento Undercrossing Bridge (No. 24-0111L). The proposed project is located on Route 1, south of Limekiln Creek and north of Nacimiento-Ferguson Road, near the community of Lucia in Monterey County. The project proposes to replace a deficient culvert and repair erosion at the outlet. The proposed project includes trenching, grading and replacement of a corrugate pipe culvert crossing and down drain.
• °06-Fre-99, R5.7/11.1. Selma to Fowler Rehab Project. Rehabilitate a portion of Route 99 in Fresno County. (ND) (PPNO 6800) (SHOPP). The proposed project is located on Route 99, south of the Rose Avenue undercrossing bridge in the city of Selma to the Merced Street undercrossing bridge in the city of Fowler in Fresno County. This project proposes to replace two lanes with reinforced concrete pavement. The proposed project will also update curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
• °08-SBd/Riv – Various, PM Various. Rehabilitation Activities on Six Bridges Project. Rehabilitate six bridges on Route 91 and I-10 and I-15 in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. (ND)(PPNO 3002G) (SHOPP). The project is located at various locations on Route 91, I-10 and, I-15, in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. The proposed project involves six bridges and proposes to perform rehabilitation activities including scour mitigation, application of methacrylate, joint seal replacement and access opening installation. The project proposes to maintain and ensure the integrity of these bridges by preventing further deterioration of the decks, substructures and joints.

The West Fork Carson River Bridges (2 bridges) are located on Route 88, the Markleeville Creek Bridge is on Route 89 and the Silver Creek Bridge is located Route 4. The project proposes to replace existing bridge rails and replace existing asphalt concrete with polyester concrete at these four bridges. The project will also widen shoulders and scour mitigate at the Markleeville Creek Bridge.

This emergency measure resulted in the draw bridge being inoperable and the US Coast Guard was notified. This project will replace the mechanical damaged components.
• $6,900,000 Los Angeles 07-LA-1 40.7/59.9. Route 1 In and near Malibu, from Route 27 to Route 23. The Woolsey Fire began on November 8, 2018.
