Hey You! Yes You! The person reading this!

I almost missed it, but this is the end of National Delurking Week. So now is your time. Please comment and let me know you are reading this. You can comment on Livejournal, you can comment on Facebook, or you can comment on blog.cahighways.org: I’ve got it set up so you can comment with most social network sharing IDs, even Twitter. So don’t just hide: come and test my commenting mechanism, and let me know if you enjoy what I post.

Are You Out There? Is Anyone Listening?

It’s that time again. It’s the second week of January. You know that that means… it’s National Delurking Week. It is the time in the blogosphere when all silent readers are encouraged to come out of the woodwork and post a comment or two. As Paper Napkin described it in 2006:

Many of you made resolutions last week to lose weight, or quit smoking, or stop beating your children (oops, maybe that was just me), and I just read a Psychology Today article which notes a direct correlation between weight loss, and commenting on your favorite blogs, so leave a comment because it will make you skinny. Not that you’re fat, because you’re not!! So tell me how long you’ve been reading my blog, or your favorite book, or the first word that pops into your mind when you hear the word shish-kabob, and remember, if you don’t leave a comment, you’re letting the terrorists win.

You can find buttons, etc, on the 2006 announcement entry, or by doing a search on Delurking Week. Here’s a 2008 post on the subject.

So, with this post, I’d like to encourage all my silent readers to say something. If you are on my friendslist but rarely post, let me know what’s happening with you–tell me what’s happening in your life, or what you find interesting about what I write. If you are not on my friends list, please speak on up. I don’t bite. If you are reading my journal through its RSS or Atom feed, c’mon over to Livejournal, create an account (it’s free). But even if you don’t want an account, come over and comment anyway. You can do so anonymously (but do sign your name, if you are so inclined) or you can authenticate via OpenID. But come on over and say something.

It’s National De-Lurking Week!

My friend Margalit, author of the What Was I Thinking? blog (whatwas_i_think), alerted me this morning to the fact that National De-Lurking Week begins today. This effort, which was founded by Paper Napkin, is described as follows:

Many of you made resolutions last week to lose weight, or quit smoking, or stop beating your children (oops, maybe that was just me), and I just read a Psychology Today article which notes a direct correlation between weight loss, and commenting on your favorite blogs, so leave a comment because it will make you skinny. So tell me how long you’ve been reading my blog, or your favorite book, or the first word that pops into your mind when you hear the word shish-kabob, and remember, if you don’t leave a comment, you’re letting the terrorists win.

You can find buttons for the week, as well as more information, on the official announcement entry. These can be saved, uploaded, and used on your posts.

A special note to my readers: There are some of you whom I’ve gotten to know well, because you comment frequently. Thanks for the comments, I hope you say “hi”. There are others who have never commented, but are reading my blog, either as stalkers (one-way friends) or anonymously. I do invite you to comment as well, and let me know something about you and how you found this blog. Who knows what will happen.
