Politicians Doing Good

For all we write about politicians doing bad, here are some with a good idea.

In Alabama, politicians are working to pass the Rosa Parks Act. This act would pardon everyone ever arrested under the state’s segregation laws, which date back to the state’s 1901 constitution. The old segregation laws required that blacks attend separate schools, use separate water fountains and theater entrances, and made it illegal for whites and blacks to marry, among other things. It would remove all the convictions from the record.

There was no opposition to the proposed legislation in the Alabama House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, where the plan was praised by Republicans and Democrats.

Mind you, this is in the state that gave us George Wallace (who I remember running for president in 1968). A dramatic shift, and a great idea.
