Well, it’s Friday at lunch, and you know what that means: time to clear out the link list to put some news chum in the water. So here we go…
- Shuttle Impacts. As you know, the Space Shuttle is coming to Los Angeles. One impact of transporting the shuttle is the need to remove around 400 trees. This has a number of people upset, but others are happy because many of the trees are invasive Ficus trees that create sidewalk problems. By the way, they will be replanting the trees 2 for 1, but the new trees will not be as large as the ones removed.
- Sexism at Restaurants. We don’t often think of a restaurant as gendered (well, other than Hooters), but they often appeal to one sex over the other. Eva Longoria is attempting to change that with SHe, a steak-house for women.
- Go Man Go. For those that love BBVD, you should be aware that Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is coming out with a new album.
- Oldest Building. An interesting article on the search for the oldest building in Los Angeles. Hint: It’s not where you would expect it to be.
- Berkeley. A link for my daughter: A nice review of some of the places along Shattuck Ave. Fabric. Crafts. Furniture. Coffee. Book.
- Go Speed Racer. Texas now has a highway with an 85mph Speed Limit. We need to add this to the stupid Texas song.
Actually, as stated in the article, that mission is not in Los Angeles. San Gabriel is an entirely separate city.
Portions of I-15 through Utah are also now signed at 85 MPH. 2 “test sections.” Most of the highway is 75 except in the major cities.
