Today’s lunchtime news chum post all has to do with life-changing events:
- Birth. Today is the anniversary of the birth of Amelia Earhart, but alas, the expedition to find her plane returned home emptyhanded. In other birthday related news, did you ever wonder about who gets the royalties to “Happy Birthday to You”? Wonder no longer.
- Adolescence. My, my, how things change in adolescence. For example, Feds are now welcome at the adolescent DefCon.
- Marriage. A truly touching marriage announcement from the father of the bride, about a couple who met after the bride had been brutally raped, and he helped her get past the trauma in a very gentle and caring way. Along the way they had hardships, but this is a great story of something nice unexpected happening. Well worth reading.
(h/t to Kveller.Com, a real great parenting blog site, and home of Mayim Bialik’s blog) - Death. We’re all mourning the loss of Sally Ride, a hero to many many people… including the gay community, who didn’t discover until her obit that she was one of them. As I noted in the post on The Laramie Project: acceptance, not tolerance.
