A collection of health related articles discovered during the lunchtime reading:
- Risks of Tattoos. Interesting article from the SF Chronicle on the risks from tattoo pigments. I’ve never been a big fan of tattoos, but that’s just my opinion. There are those that love them.
- Are You My Daddy? Interesting article on sperm donation from the NY Times. Evidently, some donor sperm are used for lots and lots of inseminations, creating lots and lots of half-siblings. I’m talking on the order of 70 or more; this is an order of magnitude greater than the normal family. This creates a risk of unintentional incest between half-brothers and half-sisters, who might not even know they were related.
- Hot Potatoes. We all know potatoes, that starchy tuber, is normally bad for you. But is it? For some, eating specialty varietals (such as purple potatoes) may lower blood pressure. There has also been an upswing in the production of Sweet Potatoes (unfortunately, most of these are as fries). I find that sweet potatoes, and their cousin the yam, are usually both more flavorful and moister.
