It’s been a busy week, so there hasn’t been much time to look at the news, let alone post at lunch about it. Additionally, there hasn’t been much that caught my eye. However, the following items were of interest:
- Playing taps. Yes, it is taps, not Taps, as this article from the St. Louis paper explains. Neither taps nor reveille receive capital letters.
- Grading women. And speaking of letters, that takes us to grades. My daughter was commenting yesterday about how a vice principal at her HS spoke to the girls about how their skimpy shorts were distracting the boys from learning. She was justifyably annoyed at the attitude that reflected. Today’s news brings the story of American Apparal, which is introducing “large” (that is, to them, sizes 12-14 or XL) clothes. They have a call for plus-size models…. and putting applicants on their website and asking voters to vote on a five-point scale. Nothing says “we really don’t like women” than destroying the self-esteem of women, does it?
- Bricked. Legoland has announced they are building a themed-hotel next to the park in Carlsbad. No word yet on whether they are using traditional bricks or Duplo.
