It’s been a busy day, but I’m finally getting a break. So let’s clear out those links:
- Does Private School Help? Hot on the heels of an article in the Daily News about private schools closing left and right, we have an article in the Washington Post that asks the question: Are exclusive schools really worth it? Their answer: no. I see this all the time in the Valley, where everyone seems to trumpet Granada Hills Charter High, while ignoring the excellent work done by some of the other public schools in the area (such as Van Nuys HS), which are often stronger than the cherry-picked GHCHS. For those of you in California: Here’s an interesting tool that lets you look at the AP and SAT scores of any high school.
- Nuclear Relics. An interesting article on a US government owned, 1960s era, nuclear powered cruise ship, now berthed in Baltimore, that is just sitting unused with a skeletal maintenance staff.
- You Ate What? Today’s product announcement: The Triple Double Oreo, with three cookies and two pats of congealed sugary fat, with 100 calories per cookie. How long before this cookie joins the list of 25 Junk Foods that are no longer available. Speaking of things that are no longer available: Burger King has sent the creepy king to the unemployment line.
