For once, a reason to use this userpic… I’ve been thinking a lot about Richard Nixon and George W Bush during this recent wiretapping escapade: why one got in trouble, and the other didn’t. It looks like the ACLU has been thinking the same thing.
Do I want impeachment? No, because the chain of command we would get is worse. But I do want parity of investigation. If we can investigate Bill Clinton for lying, we should investigate George Bush for lying. If we can investigate Richard Nixon for wiretapping domestic citizens without a warrant, we should investigate George Bush for wiretapping domestic citizens without a warrant. This is not a democratic vs. republican thing. Our government has checks and balances. This should be in place irrespective of the party of the president. Whether something is worthy of investigation should hinge on the law, not the political climate or context.
