It’s Not As Bad As It Seems

Here are two articles I found today that arguably come from the “It’s Not As Bad As It Seems” Department:

  • Although college fees are rising, the amount of financial aid offered is rising too. Boy, I hope this is true, as my daughter starts applying to college next year. On the other hand, I see this as the same shell games as coupons: making people pay more who don’t have the time to find the aid or the discounts. Why can’t we just reduce the overall price of college, and make it so aid isn’t required?
  • Halloween isn’t dangerous for your kids. This is a nice opinion piece from the WSJ that opines that many of the fears about our children on Halloween are overrated: they won’t be getting poisoned candy, their costumes won’t kill them, and your neighbor (you know, the released sex offender) won’t be grabbing your kid. I love the conclusion of the article: What makes Halloween safe? Getting out of your house and getting to know who your neighbors are.
