Today, while driving the vanpool home, we were listening to “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”, and they had an item about aliens in space learning about Earth from our TV broadcasts. This raised a whole bunch of questions:
How did they handle the digital transition? Did they write to the FCC to get their converter box coupons, but the US Mail being what it is, they still haven’t arrived at Alpha Centauri? Perhaps they tried to build their own box, but they didn’t have the RFC with the protocol in it? So now they are sitting trying to watch old black and white movies from a low-power analog transmitter, while they curse the FCC for the transition that prevents them from watching American Idol….
