Sunday was a busy day, with the various preparations. I did, however, find time to set aside a few articles I wanted to mention:
- From the “History Gone, Part I” Department: The Sportsmans Lodge in Studio City is just about gone. It closes on New Years Day, after opening in 1913. There are claims it will be back, but we’ll see. After all, they said the same thing about the Mirimar.
- From the “History Gone, Part II” Department: Also gone and not coming back is the Great White Steamer, the SS Catalina. Demolition has started in Ensenada.
- From the “Roadgeeking Travesty” Department: There are two things that raise any roadgeek’s hackles: I-238 in California, and I-99 in Pennsylvania. The NYTimes has an article on the eastern travesty, noting how the road is useful, but the number is wrong.
- From the “Winter of our Discontent” Department: The LA Times has a nice article on why this winter on Broadway is so bad in New York. No mention of 9-to-5 though.
