From the New York Times:
The Grammy-Award-winning singer-songwriter Dolly Parton has another job, writing the music and lyrics for a new stage version of “9 to 5,” based on the 1980 movie starring Ms. Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman. Patricia Resnick, a co-author of the original screenplay, wrote the new book. Joe Mantello (“The Ritz”) is slated to direct the production, which is to have its premiere at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles next fall. Andy Blankenbuehler (“In the Heights”) will handle the choreography. Previews are scheduled to begin Sept. 3. The main roles have been cast: Allison Janney of the TV series “The West Wing,” Stephanie J. Block (“The Pirate Queen,” “Wicked”) and Megan Hilty (“Wicked”) as the three co-workers who take control of the office from their egotistical boss, Franklin Hart Jr., to be played by Marc Kudisch (“The Glorious Ones”).
The dates mean this is likely the inaugural production of the 2008-2009 Taper-Ahmanson season. Hmmm, looks like season tickets for the Ahmanson two years in a row. Note that the cast is essentially the workshop cast, intact.
nsshere will be happy.
(Oh, and if you don’t get the title of this post, you didn’t see the movie. Go read this article instead.)
