Everybody Ought To Have A Maid

Everybody ought to have a maid,
Everybody ought to have a working girl,
Everybody ought to have a lurking girl
To putter around the house.
Everybody ought to have a maid,
Everybody ought to have a menial
Consistantly congenial
And quieter than a mouse.
Oh, oh, wouldn’t she be delicious,
Tidying up the dishes,
Neat as a pin.
Oh, oh, wouldn’t she be delightful,
Sweeping out,
Sleeping in.

This morning while having breakfast at my hotel I noticed the ad on the table for showerheads. It seems that nowadays hotels believe you will be so enamored of the experience you’ll want to take it home. So they sell all this stuff that folks used to steal: matresses, linen, towels, showerhead, toiletries. Holiday Inn Express does. Marriott does. Sheraton does. Hilton does. Radisson does. Almost every high or medium hotel does. Well, BestWestern doesn’t, but they are individually owned and operated :-).

Now, I do admit that the new bedding hotels is much nicer than the 20 year old matresses and threadbare sheets we used to get 15 years ago. But still… buying hotel matresses, linen, or showerheads for the house? I really dislike this trend of making everything a marketing opportunity.

So, would you ever buy hotel beds and linen for your house? The only hotel experience I’d like to bring home is the free maid.
