USA Today has an interesting story about the newest trend in surgery: not creating new holes. Specifically, surgeons are now working to be able to do many surgeries through current “holes” such as nasal, oral, rectal, (or for women) vaginal. The article writes about a women who had her gall-bladder extracted through her mouth, via a hole cut in her stomach. This continues the trend of laproscopic surgery often seen in small incisions or navel incisions.
