Monday Observations on the News

Well, I’m tired. It’s been a long day at work, and I got to drive the home. So, you get some news articles of interest, perhaps with a little commentary…

  • From the “Have you got anything without spam?” Department: USA Today is reporting that Burger King, in Hawaii, has put spam on the menu… in order to compete with Mickey-D’s, which has had spam on the breakfast menu since 2002. Evidently, unlike on the mainland, Spam is quite the popular dish in the islands — one magazine has gone so far as to refer to it as Hawaii’s soul food. Still, one wonders how Monty Python might respond.
  • From the “Take Me For A Ride In My Car-Car” Department: The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Tata Motors (they have horns that go honk-honk) is set to unveil the world’s cheapest car… so cheap that it doesn’t yet have a name. How cheap, you ask? $2,467. Of course, it won’t be available in the US or Europe, as it will not conform to European safety and emissions norms. It will be available in South Africa and a few European countries. According to the manufacturer, “It will be a good-looking car which you will want to purchase.” Yeah, right. One word: Yugo.
  • From the “Happy Fathers Day” Department: The New York Times has an interesting article on those little swimmers that made you who you are. A point of view that I never thought about before. I’ll let you come up with your own ejaculative closing line.
