Persian Food in Granada Hills

Tonight, we tried the new restaurant that replaced Nasim’s in Granada Hills, Ali Baba, at 17513 Chatsworth, (818)832-0335. They just opened two months ago. The owner, and lead chef, Ali Marghaffari, was trained in Tehran and for a long time worked at one of the major Persian restaurants on the westside of Los Angeles.

One word review: Yummmm…

The food (and the prices) were excellent. For our appetizer, we had Tahdig with Fesenjan. My wife had Albaloo Polo with Lamb Shank. I had Chicken Barg and Chicken Koobideh, and my daughter had the boneless Chicken kabob. All were great, and the total was under $40. Highly recommended.

In talking to the owner, he indicated how he believes in using only the best ingredients and taking the time to cook the food right. It shows. I hadn’t seen Albaloo Polo like that before — the cherries were really plump. The Tahdig was also much better than I’ve had before: nice chunks of crusty rice with the almost chocolaty walnut-pomegranate sauce. The chicken was quite tasty (I’m having the leftovers for lunch on Friday), and my wife says the lamb shank was scrumptious.
