That Bullet only Grazed Me

Folks may recall that I wrote we discovered we had to do abatement for our ducting in the attic. We just got the estimate from the contractor. I’m pleasantly surprised; it wasn’t as much as I thought it would be:

This proposal includes supplying all labor, material, equipment, disposal, personal air monitoring, permits and fees associated with the removal of the following asbestos-containing materials:

  1. Remove asbestos ducts located in the attic areas.
    • Strip asbestos off plenum where accessible
    • Strip and encapsulate boot boxes in same work areas.
    • Remove furnace transite vent if present and accessible.
    • Isolate work areas to prevent contamination.
    • Dispose of waste at approved EPA landfill.
    • Perform all necessary notifications

Note: When working in an attic and/or crawlspace areas asbestos containing debris may likely exist prior to the
commencement of work by P.W. Stephens, Inc. As such, P.W. Stephens, Inc. is not responsible for the removal of unseen or
excessive asbestos debris found within the crawlspace or attic areas unless specifically noted in the scope of work. If
excessive debris is found, owner will be advised so as to reach an acceptable solution. P.W. Stephens, Inc. will provide a price
for the removal of asbestos containing debris located within the attic and/or crawlspace at that time.

The following work is included:

  • Seal areas to prevent contamination.
  • Areas will remain sealed when project is complete, PWSI will not return to remove barrier plastic.

The following work is not included:

  • Removal or abatement of any other asbestos materials if not listed on the Scope of Work.
  • P.W. S.I. will not assume responsibility for any item left in work areas.
  • P.W.S.I will assume no liability for damage
occurring to any item moved out of work areas.
  • No repair to roof material or flashing caused by removal of furnace vent or roof mastic.
  • The removal of any inaccessible asbestos is not included.
  • Replacement of any materials removed, unless specified in the scope of work.

Note: Damage to walls, wallpaper, wood, and all painted surfaces occurs as a result of containment installation.
This is necessary to insure the integrity of the containment. This proposal does not include the cost of any
repairs which may be required as a result of our containment installation

Quotation

The cost for the work described in this proposal is:

Option 1 $ 800.00-900.00

Notification fees and processing $ 59.00.

TOTAL $ to be determined

This price includes taxes, insurance, permits and fees for actual removal.

So, when combined with the HVAC work, it should be under $3K. This is good (of couse, I wish I didn’t have to do it at all, but if wishes were fishes…)
