FUD is a Wonderful Thing To Watch

By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard the rumor of the LiveJournal purchase. It’s getting to be fun watching the Fear, Uncertainty, and Distrust (FUD) starting. bradfitz has already done a post about how people archiving their free journals has brought a server to its knees. Said post already has over 650 comments, mostly on his not dispelling the rumor! Truthfully folks, even if LJ has been bought, it won’t go away tomorrow. These things take time to consummate, plus (I’m sure) 90% of these posts really aren’t that important (or you would put them on your own web site). Lastly, I’m sure paid users will be protected (so pay up, if you can). Sigh…

Now on to some random comments:

  • Some public kudos to S&F, who I understand was very well behaved today while gf_guruilla had to take ixixlix to some unexpected doctors appointments because she hurt her foot. I always seem to mention S&F when she’s “Katie Kaboom”, so she deserves a “Yeah!” when she does good.
  • Saw the chiropractor today on my sore back and my neck. Both are feeling a bit better, plus I now have a contact with a personal trainer. Small steps, moving forward.
  • ACSAC should be interesting next year, with all the changes afoot. We had a 2½ hour conference committee meeting today. I’m going to need to get moving on the tutorial stuff, but at least I’m not general chair!
  • Another story going around the pipes concerns the possible cancellation or move of the Southern Ren Faire. If it moves from Devore, that wouldn’t surprise me. Let’s bring it back to Agoura. It’s closer to my house, so I might get there more often! Seriously, I do think there will be a significant faire somewhere in Southern California, no matter what happens.
  • cellio did a wonderful post on LJ Etiquitte. I commend her for the good information collected there. It should be mandatory reading!
  • I think that this weekend we’re going to go out to the Fountain Pen Shop in Monrovia to take in some pens for repair. Sunday, if it isn’t cancelled due to rain, is the Wilshire Blvd Temple Camps Reunion. It should be a fun weekend.

That’s about it for now. Have a great evening.
