Television Theme Meme Update

Yesterday, I posted a meme where I gave the authors and performers for some TV themes, and you had to identify the show. Most of the answers were guessed. Here’s what wasn’t:

Music by Mike Post, performed by Mike Post. This is not any of the Law and Orders.
L.A. Law. There were lots of guesses of other themes Post did with other folks. Post is prolific, having done “The A Team” (cowriter), “Hill St. Blues” (coperformer), “Magnum PI” (cowriter), “The Rockford Files” (cowriter), and all the Law and Orders (which I excluded).

Music by Henry Mancini.
What’s Happening was the show I was thinking of. There were lots of guesses of other Mancini themes, though….

Music by Joe Raposo and D. Nicholl, performed by Ray Charles and Julie Rinker
Three’s Company. Hard to believe, isn’t it.

And now, the answers…

Here are the answers to yesterday’s meme:

Pick 10 of your favorite TV shows. Look them up on IMDB, then pick no more than three plot keywords to describe them.

Here are mine. Can YOU guess them?

  1. Single Parent, Based On Film, Character Name In Title. The Courtship of Eddie’s Father. All together now, “People let me tell you ’bout my best friend…” Bill Bixby, Brandon Cruz, Jimmy Komack.
  2. African American, School, Number In Title. Room 222. Loved that Karen Valentine. Again, a wonderful cast, rarely rerun. Filmed at the pre-earthquake Los Angeles High. Opening sequence. jumbach would appreciate the old RTD bus in the opening. Guessed by tsgeisel.
  3. Surgery, Neurotic, Eccentric. Chicago Hope. Two words: Lisa Catera. One of the best puns around. I also really like Peter Berg, especially in this. Then again, there was the episode where they parodied “ER”. Opening sequence. Guessed by underpope.
  4. Doctor, Black Comedy, Cancer. St. Elsewhere. Guessed by underpope. There was actually a reference to #4 on #3. Does anyone remember what it was? Nice opening sequence. Of course, everyone remembers the ending of this, and how it screwed up TV universes.
  5. Sitcom (that was the only keyword, so I’ll add: Cartoon, Animator). The Duck Factory, starring a young Jim Carrey and an old Jack Gilford. A surreal show. Here’s a sample from the pilot.
  6. Newspaper Editor, Journalism, Publisher. Lou Grant. I wish this was on DVD. I’ll never forget the episode where they told the story of the Original Spanish Kitchen, or Mrs. Pynchon’s stroke. Had one of the best opening sequences. Guessed by tsgeisel.
  7. Sitcom, Divorcee, Number in Title. One Day at a Time. I think I had a crush on Valerie Bertinelli. This is what made McKenzie Phillips famous. Nice opening sequence.
  8. Sitcom, Cartoonist, Character Name In Title. Bob. One of the most surreal shows, but they never gave it a chance. I think if it had a better timeslot and they kept the first year cast, and they stuck with it, it would have lasted.
  9. Famous Opening Theme, Ensemble Cast, Lawyer Hero. Law and Order. Never gets old.
  10. Famous Opening Theme, Ensemble Cast, Urban. Hill Street Blues. I wish this was in reruns. A classic theme and opening sequence, but you rarely see the actors from it anymore. Guessed by tsgeisel.

OK, so I like shows from the last century 🙂

Identity The Show Meme

Swiped from ellipticcurve, it’s…. the IMDB TV game!

Yes, I made these intentionally hard, so I’ll give you a few clues: four of these shows are from the same three-letter studio, who also produced “The Tony Randall Show”. Only one of these shows is currently on television. Although some of these shows had very long runs, others had very short runs. Not all of these are out yet on DVD.

N V Meme

Because I need something positive today… as snarfed from deedeebythebay, gyesika, underpope, and others…

We all have things about our friends that make us slightly envious.

Not in a bad way, but in a ‘Wow! I wish I had that person’s hair/eyes/money/relationship/toenails/whatever.’

So tell me what about me makes you envy me. . . then if you feel like it, post this in your LJ and see what makes me envious of you.

(meme) Bottom 10% Userpic Meme

This was snarfed from… nobody. I’m inventing it!

1. Look at your count of userpics used, divide by 10, and round up.

2. Go through your userpics, and for that many userpics (i.e., your bottom 10%), post your least used userpics, and an explanation of what you would use that userpic for, if you used it at all.

OK, so for me, I have 105 userpics, so my “Bottom 10%” are:

1. Gardening.I did this one a while back, and I really like the transparency of the Route 1 logo. Unfortunately, I haven’t done that much gardening, so I use it very rarely.

2. Pork. This is from the TARDsite, and I find the sign absolutely hilarious. However, the context for actually using it as an icon is rare.

3. Anniversary. This is for “Happy Anniversary” posts (and an occasional TV cartoon post). I don’t do many of those, as LJ does’t remind you of anniversaries.

4. Two-gentlemen. This graphic from Two Gentlemen of Verona I planned to use for theatre posts. It just isn’t working out that way.

5. Foxy-faigin. I recently came up with the graphic, because I couldn’t resist. Haven’t found anyplace to use it yet.

6. Ca-hwy-1-gif. My original userpic. Now that it is no longer my default, I rarely use it on posts, though.
      7. Angry dog. I use this when I’m really pissed off, which doesn’t happen that often.

8. Drumcorps. I use this for drumcorps posts, which don’t happen that often.

9. Star-trek. For science-fiction related posts.

10. Dpf-work. An older picture of me at work. For some reason, I just rarely use it.

11. sympathy and tea – MF. Meant to be a sympathy and tea picture, but I tend to use my Charlie Brown and Snoopy hugs instead.

So what are your Bottom Userpics?

33 Questions Meme

[It’s been a long week. I’m tired. I’m sure you know what this means… or should I say memes…]

Snarfed from deedeebythebay:

  1. Can you cook? Yup. I have a number of signature dishes, including a pretty good honey mustard chicken.
  2. What was your dream growing up? Probably to be a veterinarian. Then I discovered computers…
  3. What talent do you wish you had? I’m torn between singing decently and playing a musical instrument.
  4. Favorite place? I could say “whereever my family is”, but if you mean solely geographically, the central coast of California, between Santa Barbara and Monterey.
  5. Favorite vegetable? Asparagus or Spinach.
  6. The last book you read? I’m embarrassed to admit this, but “The DaVinci Code”.
  7. What zodiac sign are you? Aquarius/Capricorn cusp.
  8. Any Tattoos and / or Piercings? None.
  9. Worst Habit? Biting my nails.
  10. Do we know each other outside of Livejournal? Define “we”, and I’ll answer this. Let’s just say I’ve met quite a few of my LJ friends, turning them from strangers on the Internet to really-neat people. I’d love to meet more of them. Come to So Cal Games Day tomorrow in Tujunga, if you can, and introduce yourself.
  11. What is your favourite sport? I don’t really play sports, or watch sports. If you mean something competitive, how about Drum Corps.
  12. Negative or Optimistic attitude? Usually optimistic.
  13. What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator with me? With you? Probably have a really interesting conversation about a myriad of subjects.
  14. Worst thing to ever happen to you? The death of my brother, when I was 10.

  19. Do you think clowns are cute or scary? Clowns remind me of my father.
  20. If you could change one thing about how you look, what would it be? I’d lose about 30 lbs; I’ve acquired a bit of a beer belly without drinking the beer.
  21. Would you be my crime partner or my conscience? The latter, and then the former.
  22. What colour eyes do you have? Brouwn.
  23. Ever been arrested? I think I once stole a gumball when I was 6, but I wasn’t charged.
  24. Bottle or Draft? Draft sasparilla, please.
  25. If you won $10,000 dollars today, what would you do with it? This may shock folks, but $10K isn’t all that much. Probably just add it to my investments. If it were more (in the $100K range), it would go to paying down the mortgage.
