Continuing with my post-Hollywood Fringe Festival (FB) clearing of the links, here are some articles with some interesting historical notes:
- How Freeways Transformed Cities. Here are some interactive maps to show how freeways transformed the downtown cores of a number of American cities.
- Microfilm and Microfiche. Most kids of today probably won’t know the term, but microfilm/microfiche used to be a major storage medium, and still will last much longer than the digital mediums of today.
- Rockhaven Sanitarium. The Rockhaven used to be the sanitarium to the stars; today, it sits abandoned and may be destroyed by its new owner. Here is its history.
- Sitcom Theme Songs. Here are some lost verses to popular sitcom theme songs. This isn’t even counting the full versions of songs adapted into themes, such as for the Big Bang Theory.
- Same Sex Coats of Arms. Heraldry is its own arts, especially when houses are combined. But what do you do now with same-sex marriages. Here are the rules for same-sex coats of arms.
- Vegas Disappearing. With the implosion of the Riviera, not much is left of 1950s Vegas. Here’s more bad news: the Tropicana may build another tower (possibly getting rid of the last 1950s hotel wings), and the Sands may merge with Wynn.
