Still Looking for PC Anti-Virus Experiences

This is a reminder that I’m looking for opinions regarding Windows Virus scanning suites. I got fed up with the variations provided by work (Symantec Endpoint Security), and the impacts of G-Data on system speed are starting to get annoying. I’d like to replace it when I get back from my business trip. You can see my discussions of some of the alternatives in this post.

Specifically, I would like opinions on:

  • Norton Internet Security 2009. Note that this was supposedly rewritten from the 2008 version, so I want to know if performance has improved. Don’t just tell me that the performance of 2008 or earlier sucked.
  • Zonealarm Internet Security Suite.

Bitdefender was on the list, but I’ve heard some bad things about it. Avast and AVG have been recommended in comments, but they don’t seem to do well in the ratings for finding viruses — well, I should clarify — AVG isn’t often included. It seemed to be #5 in the PCWorld Suite ratings. However, the free apps (according to PC World) often only update their signatures once daily, and display annoying ads or toolbars. Avast did acceptable blocking, but had an annoying interface per PCWorld (and is also from the Czech republic, which increases the risk level in my eyes for such software).

In short:

  1. Which Antivirus suite do you use and why?
  2. If you had to choose between Norton Internet Security Suite and Zonealarm Internet Security suite, which would you choose, and why?
