Forgotten in the Commotion

Today’s post in granada_hills about the anniversary of the North Valley JCC shooting was primarily about a service commemorating the event that was held at our congregation, Temple Ahavat Shalom. Forgotten in the commotion are the two congregations sharing a facility next to the JCC: Temple Beth Torah and the Episcopal Church of St. Andrews and St. Charles, usually called Andy-Charles. Now, when the shooting occured, TBT’s rabbi was not on facility, and he was unable to get through the police lines. But Father Greg of Andy-Charles rose to the occasion, offering the social hall and classrooms for the students, providing a safe haven nearby. This is often forgotten, and should be remembered when we commemorate the event.
