Observations on the News – May 24, 2007

Two observations on the news today, both connected by the fact that they occured because someone decided just to come out into the open:

  • From the “Snakes Not On A Plane” Department: Today in Egypt, a man bound for Saudi Arabia was detained when he tried to smuggle 700 live snakes on a plane. Specifically, in his carry-on bag, officers found over 700 snakes including 2 cobras. He was planning to sell them in Saudi Arabia. How did they discover these snakes? The man told them they were in the bag.

  • From the “Alligators Not In The Lake” Department: Reggie, the alligator who was living in an San Pedro lake, has finally been caught. He is soon to take up new residence at the LA Zoo. Evidently, while experts from Australia were meeting with Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn and her aides on how to capture the alligator, he just walked out of the lake and started sunning himself (well, some chickens helped). They put a fence around him, and that was that.
