Coming and Goings of Note

First, a coming. I’d like to welcome ixixlix to regular (or somewhat regular) posting. She’s been on LJ for a long time, but has been using her account mostly for commenting. I heartily recommend her as a real neat person, a good friend, a fierce boardgamer, and a fabric artist.

Now, the goings. There are two interesting obits in the news today:

  • Irvine Robbins, 90, one of the co-founders of Baskin-Robbins ice cream. BR is a Southern California invention, started in Glendale and Burbank. in the late 1940s. Go have a kids cup in his memory.
  • Ted Key, 95, creator of the Hazel cartoon (which probably no one on LJ remembers, even though it had a great 1960s TV series with Shirley Booth), as well as the creator of Sherman and Mr. Peabody for Jay Ward. So set that wayback machine…

Lastly, there are nominations going on for an English user representative for the LJ Advisory Board. So far, three folks whose name I recognize have started the process (jj_maccrimmon, jelly_doughnut, and lordandrei), and so far, only lordandrei has been certified. I do encourage folks to follow the nominations in lj_election_en, and to look at the various candidate’s positions (for easy reference: jj_maccrimmon, jelly_doughnut, and lordandrei).
