Well, we made it up to Mountain View. To those of you in the area, our schedule is here^*. It looks like tomorrow and Tuesday my wife and daughter will be spending with our friends Yvonne and her family; hopefully, we’ll get together with the whole mishpocha (which is an odd term to use for a Nazarine family, but it fits) on Tuesday evening. Those who have been following our schedule know that bdot and tsgeisel will be meeting us for dinner in the San Jose area on Wednesday evening. I’ll call bdot tomorrow evening to do some more coordination, but those of you who would like to join us should drop us a comment (and we really would like to meet you, especially if we know you only through LJ).

Some observations from the trip up:

• If you read the LA Times, you know there was a major wildfire near Gorman. We drove through it before they closed the freeway: we could feel the heat through the window.
• The Matrix got just about 32mpg on the way up (highway). Not quite the 36 mpg advertised, but still pretty good.
• Just as we were getting into Mtn View, my daughter had an “Oh Shit” moment with her iRiver. She access the format menu, and before she realized what she did, she had reformatted the disk. Luckily, she has her CD player with her for the trip as well, as CDs for most of what was on the iRiver. She’ll reload it at home. She calmed down pretty quickly, and I commend her for that. We blame it on her hairdo: the had just had her hair colors, and got a few blond streaks. It’s their fault!

A vacation planning update has just been posted to my custom friends list for those friends I know to be in the SF Bay Area and Sacramento. If you are a lurker and would be interested in getting together when we are up that way August 14-25, please let me know your LJ username or some other way to reach you, and we’ll coordinate.
