In particular, I&#8217;ve been so busy at lunch and when I get home I haven&#8217;t had the time (or energy) to share my accumulated links with you. So here&#8217;s a quick link post before I write up the review from last night&#8217;s show:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>At The Top of Her Class<\/strong>. Here&#8217;s an interesting story about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/news\/education\/valedictorian-sits-atop-class-one-small-northern-nevada-town\">a high school valedictorian&#8230; in a high school class of one<\/a>. She lives in a central Nevada town, and is the only graduating senior. She&#8217;s at the top of her class&#8230; and I guess also at the bottom. It&#8217;s all how you look at it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hidden Design<\/strong>. I&#8217;ve grown very fond of the podcast &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/99percentinvisible.org\/\">99% Invisible<\/a>&#8220;, which looks at hidden design issues in everyday items we never think about. Here are a couple of hidden design questions I&#8217;ve spotted this week. For example, have you ever thought about <a href=\"https:\/\/bold.pixelapse.com\/minming\/share-the-icon-no-one-agrees-on\">the share button, and why there are so many variants of it<\/a>. Here&#8217;s another: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theawl.com\/2014\/06\/internet-why-so-blue\">Why is blue such a predominant color on the Internet<\/a>? Wonderful design questions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>History<\/strong>. History fascinates me, especially obscure history. For example, here&#8217;s a link that came across a maps reddit that presents <a href=\"http:\/\/en-us.reddit.com\/r\/MapPorn\/comments\/299j8h\/animated_history_of_the_boston_subwaymbta_gif900\/\">an animated history of the Boston Subway system<\/a> (click on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanshnookenraggen.com\/_index\/2012\/04\/an-animated-history-of-the-mbta\/\">the thumbnail of the map<\/a> to see the animation). Here&#8217;s another: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/arts-culture\/early-script-wizard-oz-offers-rare-glimpse-creation-iconic-film-180951858\/?no-ist\">an article on one of the first drafts of the screenplay of &#8220;The Wizard of Oz&#8221;<\/a>. What is especially interesting is the author: Gregory Maguire, author of\u00a0<em>Wicked<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Security<\/strong>. Two interesting articles on security and privacy. The first is very important for everyone who uses AT&amp;T &#8212; it appears <a href=\"http:\/\/catless.ncl.ac.uk\/Risks\/28.04.html#subj14.1\">your mobile phone can put you at risk by being a promiscuous slut<\/a>. The other is a warning for everyone who loves to complete those Buzzfeed quizzes &#8212; remember that <a href=\"http:\/\/barker.co.uk\/buzzfeediswatching\">quizzes are a great way to collect loads of personal information<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>News You Can Use<\/strong>. Here are some links to news you can use. The first talks about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/education\/la-me-middle-class-aid-20140624-story.html#page=2\">middle class relief for UC tuition<\/a>; alas, we didn&#8217;t file the FAFSA this year as we never get anything anyway, and now it is too late for us (we may also be above the cutoff). The second is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/2365754\/17-obscure-windows-tools-and-tricks-too-powerful-to-overlook.html#tk.rss_all\">a useful list of Windows tips and tricks<\/a>, including the information on how to create God Mode.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Theatre Things<\/strong>. Here are two theatre related things about some parody musicals. First, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.playbill.com\/news\/article\/192916-I-Wanna-Do-Debbie-Porn-Parody-Musical-Debbie-Does-Dallas-Will-Return-to-New-York-City\">&#8220;<em>Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical<\/em>&#8221; is returning to NYC<\/a>. Alas, I think it is after Erin returns to LA. Secondly, the parody musical we saw in Las Vegas, &#8220;<em>Evil Dead: The Musical<\/em>&#8220;, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiegogo.com\/projects\/evil-dead-official-live-cd\">working on their own cast album and funding it on IndeGoGo<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Everyone Loves Pizza<\/strong>. Here&#8217;s a last singlet item: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/food\/dailydish\/la-dd-glutenfree-pizza-crust-from-huge-bakery-20140620-story.html\">an article on the bakery behind most of the GF pizza dough in restaurants in LA<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yet again this has been a busy busy week.
