Having a kid may not be unique, but it is something that defines some people&#8217;s lives.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the things I&#8217;ve done that were big deals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taken the time to be an involved father with and to my daughter\n<li>Been a loving husband to my wife.\n<li>Been Chair of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acm.org\/sigsac\" target=\"_blank\">ACM\/SIGSAC<\/a>.\n<li>Been Chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.la-acm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Chapter of the ACM<\/a>.\n<li>Been Chair (4 years) and Tutorial Chair (15 years) of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acsac.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Annual Computer Security Applications Conference<\/a>.\n<li>Been the author of numerous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.radium.ncsc.mil\/tpep\/library\/fers\/tcsec_fers.html\" target=\"_blank\">Final Evaluation Reports<\/a> (Gemini, Amdahl, HP\/UX, XTS-200, XTS-300).\n<li>Served on the Interpretations Working Group, NIAP Interpretation Board, and OD Review Board for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.radium.ncsc.mil\/tpep\/\" target=\"_blank\">TPEP<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/niap.nist.gov\/cc-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\">CCEVS<\/a>.\n<li>Saved the US Government likely millions of dollars through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aero.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">the work I do<\/a>.\n<li>Wrote the initial version of the history section of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/0596000278\/qid=1109218534\/sr=8-1\/ref=pd_csp_1\/104-0151724-5678349?v=glance&#038;s=books&#038;n=507846\" target=\"_blank\">Perl Camel book<\/a>, and serve as Perl&#8217;s Paternal Godparent.\n<li>Developed and maintained the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cahighways.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">California Highways Web Page<\/a>\n<li>Been a co-developer, and served as maintainer of, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scjfaq.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Soc.Culture.Jewish Frequently Asked Questions and Reading List<\/a>.\n<li>Initiated and served as moderator of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mljewish.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Liberal Judaism Mailing List<\/a>.\n<li>Co-Initiated and served as moderator for the <a href=\"http:\/\/groups-beta.google.com\/group\/soc.culture.jewish.parenting\" target=\"_blank\">Soc.Culture.Jewish.Parenting Newsgroup<\/a>.\n<li>Served in numerous volunteer positions for congregations, including Social Action V.P., Religious Practices V.P., Tot Shabbat Coordinator, etc.\n<li>Been a resource to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dot.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Caltrans<\/a>!\n<li>Developed the software for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?num=100&#038;hl=en&#038;lr=&#038;q=%22UCLA+Computer+Club%22&#038;btnG=Search\" target=\"_blank\">UCLA Computer Club<\/a> when I served as I\/O Chairman (although I never set up a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jokes2go.com\/04\/7\/j30.html\" target=\"_blank\">Glitter Trap (see #5)<\/a>).\n<li>Helped a lot of people, directly or indirectly.<\/ul>\n<p>What is interesting is that, unlike the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/cahwyguy\/149961.html\" target=\"_blank\">uniqueness meme<\/a>, most of these were done in my post-UCLA lifetime. Interesting that.
