Those harrowing drives across the Golden Gate Bridge with oncoming traffic inches away, separated only by a row of yellow plastic tubes, will in all likelihood come to an end next year with the arrival of a slender steel-and-concrete movable median barrier. After 15 years of planning and searching for funding, the bridge district&#8217;s Board of Directors is expected to approve the purchase of the $26.5 million barrier &#8211; designed to prevent head-on collisions&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/immigrationdebate\/ci_24108899\/bracero-memorial-highway-celebrate-contributions-mexican-field-workers\"><strong>Bracero Memorial Highway dedicated to celebrate contributions of Mexican field workers and railroad builders<\/strong><\/a>. Signs dedicating a stretch of 101 as the Bracero Memorial Highway &#8212; a memorial to the 32 field workers killed that day &#8212; were unveiled at a ceremony Saturday at the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas. State Route 67 between Lakeside and Ramona has been the scene of numerous, horrific head-on collision over the years.
