Back when I was in school, it was always &#8220;just an outsider&#8221;, never quite in the right cliques. Similarly when I went to camp: I was never in the popular cliques; I was always in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> or 3<sup>rd<\/sup> tier groups. <\/p>\n<p>Here on LJ, the &#8220;cliques&#8221; are smaller, and what is interesting is that they are clearly distinct. The 1<sup>st<\/sup> is a group of Jewish friends I&#8217;ve made on LJ that go back to my active days in soc.culture.jewish; the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> (which are actually the same group, and would shop up larger once <a href=\"http:\/\/gf_guruilla.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">gf_guruilla<\/a> sets up the mutual friends with <a href=\"http:\/\/ellipticcurve.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">ellipticcurve<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/ixixlix.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">ixixlix<\/a>) are family and close friends. The 4<sup>th<\/sup> is the roadgeek clique: folks interested in highway stuff. <\/p>\n<p>I wonder if other folk&#8217;s cliques break out as cleanly as this?<\/p>\n<p><font size=-1>[And yes, I do always analyze things like this.
