Discovery Channel is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/travel\/flights\/2012\/10\/01\/inside-a-doomed-jetliner-tv-show-stages-727-crash\/1606749\/\">crashing a 727 into the ground, all in the name of science<\/a>. Fascinating read, and I&#8217;m sure it will be fascinating to watch. The basic conclusion, at least for this type of crash, is that you do better over the wings, and worst in First Class. The 727 was chosen because <del>it was Bob Dole&#8217;s campaign plane<\/del> because it has an exit in the rear out of which the pilots can parachute.<\/li>\n<li><strong>LOL Cats are Good For You<\/strong>. Evidently, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/money\/la-fi-mo-cute-animals-kittens-productivity-20121002,0,1435949.story\">watching pictures of cute kittens can improve your productivity<\/a>. Who knew? Tests showed that an image of fluffy little critters \u201cnot only improves fine motor skills but also increases perceptual carefulness.\u201d Specifically, the report indicated that they could be used \u201cto induce careful behavioral tendencies in specific situations, such as driving and office work.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Teens and Risk. <\/strong>Evidently, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/health\/boostershots\/la-heb-teens-risk-averse-20121001,0,809549.story\">teens don&#8217;t do risky things because they are stupid, or because they are risk averse; rather, they have a higher tolerance for uncertain outcomes<\/a>. Basically, according to the study&#8217;s author, \u201cTeenagers enter unsafe situations not because they are drawn to dangerous or risky situations, but rather because they aren\u2019t informed enough about the odds of the consequences of their actions.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Online Behaviors<\/strong>. There is an explanation for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10000872396390444592404578030351784405148.html\">why we are so rude online.<\/a> According to soon-to-be-published research from professors at Columbia University and the University of Pittsburgh, browsing Facebook lowers our self control. The effect is most pronounced with people whose Facebook networks were made up of close friends, the researchers say. Most of us present an enhanced image of ourselves on Facebook. This positive image\u2014and the encouragement we get, in the form of &#8220;likes&#8221;\u2014boosts our self-esteem.
