Time to share a few interesting links with you while I wait for the shuttle to land (and hope that I can see it from the Circle A Ranch, as (alas) <a href=\"http:\/\/clui.org\/ludb\/site\/aerospace-corporation\">the original A1<\/a> is no longer standing):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Planning for the Shuttle<\/strong>. As the shuttle is on our minds here in LA, have you ever given any thought to the job of the person who must plan the route? <a href=\"http:\/\/la.curbed.com\/archives\/2012\/09\/5_challenges_faced_by_the_guy_who_closes_streets_for_carmageddon_endeavour_and_ciclavia.php\">Curbed LA did, and has an interesting article about 5 challenges faced by the guy who closes streets for special events<\/a>. For example, Tests of the streets along the Endeavour route show vulnerabilities &#8220;where sewer and water lines are located&#8221;&#8211;meaning they can&#8217;t handle the 78 tons of the space shuttle. As a fix, LADOT will place &#8220;at least 150 plates of thick steel&#8221; under the transport to distribute its weight in tough spots: &#8220;he expects the entire intersection of Crenshaw and Martin Luther King boulevards to be covered with steel.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>That Tastes Familiar<\/strong>. Have you ever wondered why everything tastes like chicken? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/life\/food\/2012\/09\/tasting_like_chicken_its_evolutionary_origins_.html\">Turns out there is an evolutionary reason<\/a>. After all, dinosaur quite likely tasted like chicken.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Appreciating the Librarians<\/strong>. We must always appreciate our librarians. Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/local\/la-me-harnisch-creason-20120920,0,4236916.column\">a neat profile of Glen Creason, the Los Angeles Map Librarian<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Shape of Things<\/strong>. USA Today is doing a redesign with a circular logo. Stephen Colbert didn&#8217;t like it, and complained it wouldn&#8217;t work for Spongebob, Doritos, or the Pentagon. <a href=\"http:\/\/mediagallery.usatoday.com\/Yes+we+can,+Colbert!\/G4342\">USA Today proved him wrong<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now to go watch for the shuttle&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>ETA: I watched.
