So, instead of the Saturday Morning Funnies, here are some links for you to chew on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Migraine Findings<\/strong>. Those who know me in person know I suffer from migraines. Luckily, mine tend to be lighter and non-disabling, but they are chronic and distracting. The WSJ had <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10000872396390444320704577567352444742524.html\" target=\"_blank\">a really interesting article this week that posits a new explanation of migraines<\/a>: they are not vascular, but due to\u00a0a brain chemical known as CGRP, which appears to play a role in the transmission of pain, but not in other brain functions, such as cognition or mood. The theory\u00a0 in the article is that migraines &#8220;hijack&#8221; the brain&#8217;s normal pain circuitry&#8211;essentially, the brain&#8217;s normal pain-sensory system, in which nerve endings send messages to the brain about a threat, goes awry in migraines.CGRP activity is decreased by triptans. More details are in the article.<\/li>\n<li><strong>I Want to Be a Refrigerator Repairman, Just Like My Dear Old Dad<\/strong>. A really interesting article from the LA Times where <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/local\/la-me-spy-secrets-20120808,0,635773.story\" target=\"_blank\">a daughter discovered what her father <em>really<\/em> did for a living<\/a>. Hint: It had to do with a little thing called Project Corona.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stamping It Out<\/strong>. An interesting opinion piece from the LA Times where it notes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/la-fi-hiltzik-20120808,0,2015318.column\" target=\"_blank\">privatizing the Post Office is the wrong idea<\/a>. In particular, it reminds people that providing a postal service is a <em>constitutionally-mandated<\/em> requirement.<\/li>\n<li>Personal Preferences. So, according to the LA Times, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/health\/boostershots\/la-heb-stress-attraction-20120809,0,7176962.story\" target=\"_blank\">stressed out men prefer fleshier women<\/a>.
