\"\"Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times had an article on TV Themes, highlighting (in memory of the death of Earl Scruggs<\/a>) themes such as the one to the Beverly Hillbillies that serve to tell a story<\/a>. In that vein, and as preparation for Passover, which starts Friday night, here’s a little lunchtime something from my Haggadah<\/a> (originally from the Shalom Center):<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Come an’ listen to a story
\n’bout a man named Mo,
\nA Hebrew child raised
\nby the daughter of Pharaoh,
\nAn’ then one day
\nan Egyptian beat a slave,
\nAn’ Moses stepped in,
\nthe Hebrew for to save…
\n(Struck the guard, killed him dead!)<\/em>
\n 
\nWell, the next thing you know,
\nol’ Mo is all a-feared.
\nThe Hebrews said,
\n\u201cMo, run away from here!\u201d
\nMo decided Midian
\nwas the place he oughtta be,
\nAnd there he stayed,
\ntill he saw a burnin’ tree\u2026
\n(God, that is… boomin’ voice, majesty.)<\/em>
\n 
\nGod told Moses
\nto go an’ tell Pharaoh,
\n\u201cTime has come
\nto let my people go!\u201d
\nPharaoh just laughed, said,
\n\u201cYou tryin’ to pull my leg?\u201d
\nSo Mo raised his staff,
\nand God brought down the plagues\u2026
\n(Blood, that is… frogs an’ lice, hailstones.)<\/em><\/td>\n		<\/td>\nTen plagues in all,
\nand the last was really bad:
\nSlayin’ of the first-born,
\nand Pharaoh was a dad.
\nHe said to the Hebrews,
\n\u201cGo on! Get away from me!\u201d
\nSo they loaded up their matzah
\nand they headed toward the sea\u2026
\n(Red, that is… mighty wide, no way across.)<\/em>
\n 
\nPharaoh got all crazy
\nand decided to attack.
\nMo raised his staff,
\nand the waters, they drew back!
\nThe Hebrews walked through,
\njust as dry as they could be,
\nAnd Pharaoh’s army chased \u2019em,
\nbut were covered by the sea\u2026
\n(Drowned, that is… chariots, riders, too)<\/em>
\n 
\nThen Mo’s sister Miriam,
\nshe began to sing,
\nAnd the womenfolk danced
\nas she played the tambourine.
\nOnce we were slaves,
\nbut now we are free,
\nAnd in every generation
\nwe recall our history\u2026
\n(The Children of Israel!)<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Two other Passover related stories, because I always have to do things in threes:<\/p>\n
