If you haven&#8217;t read it by now, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bordersreorganization.com\/\">Borders has filed Chapter 11<\/a>. They are closing a lot of stores. This article summarizes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laobserved.com\/biz\/2011\/02\/san_francisco_400_po.php\">the SoCal closures<\/a>, and here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/s.wsj.net\/public\/resources\/documents\/st_borders0216_20110216.html\">a full list<\/a>.  Looking at the SoCal closures: (a) I&#8217;m glad Northridge <i>isn&#8217;t<\/i> closing; (b) the one in Sherman Oaks is no surprise &#8212; it was a horrible location; (c) the one in Pasadena is probably great news for Vromans; (d) the one in Westchester, again, was a terrible location, in Howard Hughes Plaza.\n<li><b>Monopoly<\/b>. Hasbro is coming out with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/02\/16\/business\/16monopoly.html\">a cashless version of Monopoly<\/a>, where a central computer rolls the dice, collects rent, manages the bank, auctions properties, and introduces various new things when the game seems to slow down. Sigh. I didn&#8217;t think there was a way Monopoly could be made worse (it is, after all, roll and move), but Hasbro came up with one.\n<li><b>Feed a Cold<\/b>. For those that thought chicken soup was good for a cold, <a href=\"http:\/\/well.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/02\/15\/for-cold-virus-zinc-may-edge-out-even-chicken-soup\/?hpw\">research is showing zinc may be better<\/a>.  Of course, research is also showing <a href=\"http:\/\/yourlife.usatoday.com\/health\/medical\/coldflu\/story\/2011\/02\/The-cure-for-the-common-cold-There-is-none\/43774872\/1\">there is no cure for the cold<\/a>.<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few lunchtime news items on some recent changes announced in the news: Borders Bankruptcy.
