Time to share some chum I&#8217;ve collected during this week off of work&#8230;.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>From the \u201c<b>Mind Your Ps and Queues<\/b>\u201d Department:<\/i> A very interesting article from the NY Times on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/12\/28\/business\/media\/28disney.html?_r=1&#038;hp\" target=\"_blank\">how Disney does queue management<\/a>, including such tricks as dispatching entertainers if the guests look bored, or diverting a parade to draw people to an underutilized portion of the park.\n<li><i>From the \u201c<b>Living in the Past<\/b>\u201d Department:<\/i> Courtesy of one of my daughter\u2019s friends (who was once on LJ as <a href=\"http:\/\/greenscar.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">greenscar<\/a>), here are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/mathieus\/13-vintage-ads-that-would-be-banned-today-8q4\" target=\"_blank\">a number of vintage ads that would be viewed in a very different light today<\/a>. This is entertaining to look at simply to demonstrate how society has changed. In a similar vein, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designmom.com\/2010\/08\/vintage-internet-ads\/\" target=\"_blank\">here are some modern Internet services advertised via vintage-looking advertisments<\/a>.\n<li><i>From the \u201c<b>Parking Wars<\/b>\u201d Department:<\/i> The NY Times has a story about something I\u2019m sure is familiar to <a href=\"http:\/\/talonvaki.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">talonvaki<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/12\/29\/us\/29boston.html?_r=1&#038;hpw\" target=\"_blank\">the war over reserving parking spaces in the winter in South Boston<\/a>. Luckily, this is something we never deal with here in Southern California.\n<li><i>From the \u201c<b>Stamping It Out<\/b>\u201d Department:<\/i> Although it hasn\u2019t been formally announced yet, as of January 1, 2011, <a href=\"http:\/\/content.usatoday.com\/communities\/ondeadline\/post\/2010\/12\/ap-all-first-class-stamps-to-be-forever-from-now-on\/1\" target=\"_blank\">all new first-class 1oz postage stamps will be \u201cforever\u201d stamps<\/a>. By the way, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5hctPQup7s9lYjD17uhejfKaqIOIw?docId=06bd9b501dcc462895066f272e9fe28c\" target=\"_blank\">the AP has posted a summary of what subjects will be on the 2011 stamps<\/a>. This is important to me; I always make the effort to use interesting stamps on my snail mail. Of course, if you\u2019re going \u201cwhat is a stamp?\u201d, you\u2019re too young :-).\n<li><i>From the \u201c<b>Three\u2019s a Crowd<\/b>\u201d Department:<\/i> The NY Times has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/12\/29\/technology\/29wifi.html?src=busln\" target=\"_blank\">an interesting article on wi-fi overload at conferences<\/a>. The problem is that so many people are jumping onto wi-fi that the hotspots provided become overloaded.\n<li><i>From the \u201c<b>News You Can Use<\/b>\u201d Department:<\/i> Here\u2019s information you can always use: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/features\/food\/la-fo-marketwatch-20101224,0,4339230.story\" target=\"_blank\">How to pick a good avacado<\/a>.<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ah, Wednesday.
