{"id":4190,"date":"2010-11-11T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-11-11T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cahighways.org\/wordpress\/?p=4190"},"modified":"2010-11-11T05:00:00","modified_gmt":"2010-11-11T13:00:00","slug":"iconic-deaths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cahighways.org\/wordpress\/?p=4190","title":{"rendered":"Iconic Deaths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Culled from recent news, here are some iconic deaths (well, most of them are):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Mr. Goodwrench.<\/b> Yup, GM is <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2010\/11\/09\/autos\/gm_goodwrench\/index.htm?hpt=T2\" target=\"_blank\">pulling the plug on the guy<\/a>, giving him that ol\u2019 pink slip. Seems that even a bailout couldn\u2019t save his job.  He\u2019s on the unemployment line, being replaced with \u201cChevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac Certified Service\u201d\n<li><b>Sara Lee<\/b>. At least on baked goods. Actually, the name isn\u2019t dying, but <a href=\"http:\/\/chicagobreakingbusiness.com\/2010\/11\/sara-lee-selling-bread-unit-to-groupo-bimbo.html\" target=\"_blank\">the bakery operations of Sara Lee are being sold to Grupo Bimbo out of Mexico City<\/a>.  You might say the jobs are being outsourced to Mexico, only they aren\u2019t. You can\u2019t do that with bakeries. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/2010\/11\/10\/3173051\/grupo-bimbo-bakery-firm-buys-sara.html\" target=\"_blank\">The jobs are staying local<\/a>. This means that brands such as Rainbo, EarthGrains, IronKids will joins Bimbo\u2019s other brands Orowheat, Entenmann&#8217;s, Boboli and Thomas&#8217; English Muffins. Of course, for me, this just means more variety in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bimbobakeriesusa.com\/our_brands\/outlet_stores.html\" target=\"_blank\">the Bimbo Outlet just down the street from work<\/a>.\n<li><b>Mr. Peanut<\/b>. OK, he\u2019s not dead. <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/alltherage\/2010\/11\/after-94-years-mr-peanut-finds-his-voice-and-its-robert-downey-jr.html\" target=\"_blank\">He\u2019s just getting a makeover<\/a>. He\u2019s gotten clothes (a gray wool, notch lapel three-button suit jacket accented with white piping, gray trousers, a white dress shirt with French cuffs and light green necktie, and a crisply folded triangle of white pocket square), as well as a voice (Robert Downey Jr.).\n<li><b>Piggie Banks<\/b>. In this case, it is the pig that is dead. Yup. <a href=\"http:\/\/news.blogs.cnn.com\/2010\/11\/10\/piggy-bank-made-of-actual-piglet-sparks-death-threats\/?hpt=Sbin\" target=\"_blank\">One enterprising company is selling a piggie bank made from actual piglets<\/a>. The pigs die of natural causes, are taxidermied, and then stuffed with a coin storage unit and a cork plug.
