Today\u2019s news include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/la-fi-circuitcity17-2009jan17,0,1655727.story\" target=\"_blank\">the powering off of all Circuit City locations<\/a> (I must remember to look for a good digital camera); the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/ci_11465372\" target=\"_blank\">charring of Black Angus Restaurants<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/17\/business\/17citi.html?hp\" target=\"_blank\">express-lane-checkout of the Citigroup Financial Supermarket idea<\/a>, the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/extras.post-journal.com\/nie\/glossary.htm\" target=\"_blank\">30<\/a>\u201d coming closer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/16\/business\/media\/16paper.html?ref=business\" target=\"_blank\">at the Minneapolis Star Tribune<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/16\/business\/16shop.html?ref=business\" target=\"_blank\">staff clearance at Saks and Neiman Marcus<\/a>, and Hertz is <a href=\"http:\/\/hosted.ap.org\/dynamic\/stories\/H\/HERTZ_JOB_CUTS?SITE=MOSTP&#038;SECTION=HOME&#038;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT\" target=\"_blank\">kicking more than 4,000 people to the side of the road<\/a>. Need I go on?\n<li><i>From the \u201c<b>Passings, Part II<\/b>\u201d Department:<\/i> On the human side, there are also notable passings. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/16\/business\/16crow.html\" target=\"_blank\">Trammel Crow<\/a> (and earlier, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/obituaries\/la-me-ellis8-2009jan08,0,550808.story\" target=\"_blank\">Harold Ellis<\/a> of Grubb and Ellis) are no longer developing. The creative spark has left <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/17\/arts\/design\/17wyeth.html?hp\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Wyeth, the painter<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/17\/books\/17mortimer.html?ref=obituaries\" target=\"_blank\">John Mortimer, creater of The Rumpole<\/a>.
