{"id":3223,"date":"2009-01-15T12:23:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-15T20:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cahighways.org\/wordpress\/?p=3223"},"modified":"2009-01-15T12:23:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-15T20:23:00","slug":"the-resonant-frequency-of-chum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cahighways.org\/wordpress\/?p=3223","title":{"rendered":"The Resonant Frequency of Chum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A number of articles today seemed to resonate with me as my birthday approaches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>From the \u201c<b>It\u2019s No Longer Cool When Your Parents Do It<\/b>\u201d Department:<\/i> USAToday has an article about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/tech\/hotsites\/2009-01-14-social-networking_N.htm\" target=\"_blank\">the percentage of older adults on social networks is growing<\/a>. According to the article, 35% of adult Internet users now have a profile on at least one social networking site. And among online adults ages 35-44, 30% have a profile. For those aged 45 to 54 (I\u2019m turning 49), the percentage is 19% (55-64, 10%; .GE. 65, 7%).  The article notes that most adults use social networking for personal rather than professional reasons; about half of adult users are on MySpace and just under a quarter use Facebook. Just 6% use LinkedIn, geared for business networking. They don\u2019t mention LJ. I guess I\u2019m an a oddity: I\u2019m on LJ, MySpace, Facebook, <i>and<\/i> LinkedIn. Haven\u2019t yet gotten into twittering though&#8230;.\n<li><i>From the \u201c<b>Dum Dum Dum Dum<\/b>\u201d Department:<\/i> <i>Some<\/i> of us are old enough to remember <a href=\"http:\/\/partners.nytimes.com\/library\/arts\/121599charles-schulz.html\" target=\"_blank\">when Peanuts still had new run strips<\/a> (i.e., before 1999). It turns out there were multiple layers in the strips involving Schroder. The music in those strips&#8230; it was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/14\/arts\/design\/14pean.html?partner=permalink&#038;exprod=permalink\" target=\"_blank\">real snippets of Beethoven chosen specifically for each strip<\/a>.  Evidently, Schulz carefully chose each snatch of music he drew and transcribed the notes from the score.
