We\u2019re now under pressure to actually sign up for an exam date, on the theory that if you actually have a date, you won\u2019t put off studying. Makes sense. Two problems. The first is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.isc2.org\/download\/exam_pricing.pdf\">the fee<\/a> ($549): we get to personally pay it up front; we may get reimbursed depending on our organization&#8230; if we pass.  I\u2019ve got the funds&#8211;it\u2019s just me dealing with a head that hates to spend money. The second problem is choosing the date. First, there are <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/webportal.isc2.org\/Custom\/ExamsListView.aspx?month=0&amp;type=1&amp;city=&amp;state=CA&amp;country=\">a limited number of examinations<\/a> offered in reasonable driving distance (i.e., <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&#038;hl=en&#038;geocode=&#038;q=Northridge,+CA+to+Los+Angeles,+CA&#038;sll=37.0625,-95.677068&#038;sspn=48.555061,71.894531&#038;ie=UTF8&#038;z=11\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=d&#038;saddr=Northridge,+CA&#038;daddr=Santa+Ana,+CA&#038;hl=en&#038;geocode=&#038;mra=ls&#038;sll=34.14456,-118.388235&#038;sspn=0.399501,0.561676&#038;ie=UTF8&#038;z=10\" target=\"_blank\">Santa Ana<\/a>). Each of the dates have different problems (note that the exam is <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Certified_Information_Systems_Security_Professional\" target=\"_blank\">a <i>6 hour<\/i>, 250 question, multiple-choice exam<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Saturday, September 27, 2008 in Los Angeles<\/b>. This date is only a few weeks away, and I\u2019m really busy with various tasks so there won\u2019t be a lot of study time. It\u2019s also the Shabbat before Rosh Hashanah, and we have tickets to see \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.centertheatregroup.org\/tickets\/productiondetail.aspx?id=4910\" target=\"_blank\">9 to 5<\/a>\u201d the next day. One plus is that I could spend the afternoon before the test studying at CSUN (I have a morning <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecs.csun.edu\/ecs\/iab.html\" target=\"_blank\">IAB meeting<\/a> there).\n<li><b>Sunday, October 19, 2008 in Santa Ana<\/b>. I\u2019ve got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbtcamps.org\/alumni_upcoming_events.asp\" target=\"_blank\">an event at camp<\/a> that day, plus it seems to be associated with <a href=\"https:\/\/webportal.isc2.org\/Custom\/ExamsListView.aspx?month=0&#038;type=2&#038;city=&#038;state=CA&#038;country=\" target=\"_blank\">some form of training camp<\/a>.\n<li><b>Sunday, November 16, 2008 in Santa Ana<\/b>. We have theatre tickets to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pasadenaplayhouse.org\/lady_with_all_the_answers.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Pasadena Playhouse<\/a> the night before (so I\u2019ll be home around midnight &#8212; a recipe for a migraine the next day). It is also the weekend before my daughter\u2019s birthday. This also seems to be associated with the training camp.\n<li><b>Sunday, December 14, 2008 in Santa Ana<\/b>. I will have lost all of the immediately prior week to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.acsac.org\/\">ACSAC<\/a>, and thus will have had no study time (although the conference, which is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starwoodhotels.com\/sheraton\/property\/overview\/index.html?propertyID=1569\" target=\"_blank\">in Anaheim<\/a>, wouldn\u2019t be far away&#8230; I could spend Saturday studying&#8230; but have to pay for two hotel nights (over $200)). This is also associated with a training camp.\n<li><b>Saturday, December 20, 2008 in Los Angeles<\/b>. This is a week after ACSAC, so I could take some days off before the test for last minute studying.  On the minus side, it is far away from now, so I might forget what I\u2019m studying now.<\/ul>\n<p>Now, if you are trying to figure out why I\u2019m putting myself through this&#8230; let\u2019s just say that I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isc2.org\/cgi-bin\/content.cgi?page=949\" target=\"_blank\">need it for work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So, although I have my leanings, I\u2019d like your opinion.
