{"id":2370,"date":"2007-08-20T14:50:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-20T21:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cahighways.org\/wordpress\/?p=2370"},"modified":"2007-08-20T14:50:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-20T21:50:00","slug":"the-great-gods-of-the-highway-get-a-new-vehicle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cahighways.org\/wordpress\/?p=2370","title":{"rendered":"The Great Gods of the Highway get a new vehicle&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/origin.dailynews.com\/business\/ci_6652399\">Daily News is reporting<\/a> that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chp.ca.gov\/\">CHP<\/a> has purchased 88 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fleet.chrysler.com\/fleetcda\/CDAController?pageid=252\">Dodge Chargers<\/a> for use on the highways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nine will be white with a CHP logo on the front doors and will be used at the academy for training and evaluation.\n<li>Nine with a snappier logo will be distributed to the eight divisions across the state and at the Sacramento headquarters, and will be driven by public affairs officers and used as a recruiting tool.\n<li>The remainder will be used undercover, with regular factory colors and no CHP logos.<\/ul>\n<p>Seventy-nine of the cars will have a more fuel efficient V-6 power plant but they are still pursuit-rated vehicles. The nine at the academy will have the bigger 340 horsepower, 5.7 liter V-8 Hemi engine. <\/p>\n<p>The article has additional tidbits, such as the fact that in 1996, the agency put the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fleet.ford.com\/showroom\/2008fleetshowroom\/2008-CrVicPoliceInt.asp\">Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor<\/a> in service as its general purpose patrol vehicle. And in 1994 and 1995, the agency used the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chevroletcaprice.com\/\">Chevrolet Caprice<\/a>. Of course, we all know that in 2006, the CHP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dubspeedracing.com\/forums\/showthread.php?t=5955\">placed an order for Porsche Boxsters<\/a>.
