The time when the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pasadenaplayhouse.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pasadena Playhouse<\/a><\/i> announces its 2008 season without announcing its season. In other words&#8230; yup&#8230; it\u2019s season renewal time. I am pleased to note that the Playhouse didn\u2019t go up much this year: about $40 for our two subscriptions (i.e., over 12 shows).<\/p>\n<p>So, what are the 2008 possibilities?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cMask\u201d [Pre-Broadway Musical]. Book by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/imdb\/actor\/nm0357703\" target=\"_blank\">Anna Hamilton Phelan<\/a>, Music and Lyrics by <a href=\"http:\/\/mann-weil.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barry Mann<\/a>, Lyrics by <a href=\"http:\/\/mann-weil.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cynthia Weil<\/a>. A deeply touching story of a mother\u2019s love for her child.\n<li>\u201cPrairie\u201d [Pre-Broadway Musical]. Book by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beth_Henley\" target=\"_blank\">Beth Henley<\/a>, Music by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rachel_Portman\" target=\"_blank\">Rachel Portman<\/a>. Lyrics by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donnadinovelli.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Donna DiNovelli<\/a>. A new musical based on the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Little_House_on_the_Prairie\" target=\"_blank\">Little House on the Prairie<\/a><\/i> books, adapted by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Beth Henley.\n<li><i>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.augustwilson.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">August Wilson<\/a> Play<\/i> [Contemporary Plays from Winning Playwrights] Another play in the Wilson <a href=\"http:\/\/www.augustwilson.net\/Rawson%20Wilson%27s%20Pittsburgh%20Cycle.htm\" target=\"_blank\">ten-year chronology<\/a> of 20th-century African American life.\n<li><i>A New Play<\/i> [World Premier New Plays] A play developed by <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pasadenaplayhouse.org\/hothouse.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Hothouse at the Playhouse<\/a><\/i>.\n<li> \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Little_Foxes\" target=\"_blank\">The Little Foxes<\/a>\u201d By Lillian Hellman. [Reinvented Classics]\n<li> \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stagecentreproductions.com\/Fallen%20Angels.html\" target=\"_blank\">Fallen Angels<\/a>\u201d by Noel Coward [Reinvented Classics]\n<li> \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Of_Mice_and_Men\" target=\"_blank\">Of Mice and Men<\/a>\u201d by John Steinbeck [Reinvented Classics]\n<li> \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Philadelphia_Story\" target=\"_blank\">The Philadelphia Story<\/a>\u201d by Philip Barry [Reinvented Classics]\n<li> \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pygmalion_(play)\" target=\"_blank\">Pygmalion<\/a>\u201d or \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mrs._Warren's_Profession\" target=\"_blank\">Mrs. Warren\u2019s Profession<\/a>\u201d by George Bernard Shaw [Reinvented Classics] <\/ul>\n<p>Supposedly, they will pick six of these. My predictions? First, there will be at least one play that is not on this list, probably African-American themed. That just seems to be how <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pasadenaplayhouse.org\/artisic_director.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Sheldon<\/a> works, although they might use all of these possibilities depending on the Hothouse play. Of course, the Wilson and the Hothouse play are in. They might just do both musicals, one in the summer (Mask), one as their last show (Prairie). For the reinvented classics&#8230; Philadelphia Story, because they don\u2019t have a good comedy, and Mrs. Warren\u2019s Profession, because it was controversial and shunned by critics, and thus a challenge to restage. I guess we\u2019ll see if I\u2019m right when the official announcement comes out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it\u2019s that time again.
