After two updates that added maps to every route page, it’s time to do a regular update. As I’ve written before, I’m\u00a0do some remodeling around here<\/a>. Over the past year, the site has been moved to HTTPS: all the time, and (as noted) maps will be added. I’ve gotten a book on Responsive Design, and after I read it, I’ll be moving the site to a responsive design, together with some basic graphic changes of the headers and menus. I have no plans to change the content or my method of content generation. As always, I’m on the lookout for a good WSYWYG with “Tags Mode” HTML editor that I like (both of the ones I use,\u00a0HoTMetaL Pro<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Amaya<\/a>\u00a0are abandonware). You can see\u00a0my thoughts on what I would like from the redesign here<\/a>; it also explains how the site is generated.<\/p>\n

Noted a change in the definition of a Landscaped Freeway. In January 2018, the California Assembly voted unanimously to endorse a plan that could raise $500 million annually for each billboard classified as a digital billboard. The revenue could be applied for road work in the state. Sponsored by Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio, D-Baldwin Park, the bill would convert the state\u2019s signage definition from static signs to include digital billboards. AB3168 would also clarify and limit what can be considered as a landscaped highway. The change would permit existing billboards to be relocated along highways. The digital billboards would also be taller than existing billboards. State and federal law are set up to protect landscaped areas along highways. Changes to allow affected digital billboards in the Golden State would also require federal approval. Failure to enforce federal law could result in the loss of 10 percent of federal highway funds. California receives $3.5 billion annually from the feds, which equates to the possibility of losing out on $350 million for failure to comply with the federal billboard rule. The bill was approved by the governor 9\/29\/2018, Chapter 926, Statutes of 2018.
