I Should Stood In Bed

Today’s been a crazy day. I should have just run when I got to the vanpool stop. Why? Guess who got to drive the van into work because there were no other drivers. That’s right…

I get into work… and run into ellipticcurve… at 6:40 AM. She’s not a morning person. Warning #2.

Work was OK, although the day was crazy. We’re finalizing our plans for Thanksgiving, which have us going to go visit friends in the Bay Area and the Sacramento area. However, all day I’ve been plagued with this odd tingle in my left arm. I’m guessing I’ve got a pinched nerve somehow. I move it and… tingle (think of the odd tingle you get when you bump your elbow wrong).

Just before I leave, gf_guruilla calls indicating the S&F has been home all day, due to her tooth hurting. I have to pick up her homework.

Thought I could sleep on the van home. Instead, I end up having a conversation the entire way home with one of the new riders about the state highway system. No rest for the Daniel.

Get home. S&F has a melt-down after spilling Jello on the leather sofa. I clean it up (she’s so distraught I can’t reminder that she needs to eat sitting up, not lying down). Luckily, leather cleans easy. It takes us a while to calm her down. She still hasn’t done all her backed up homework, because she has no energy. I guess we’ll send a note to the teacher. She’ll be going to the dentist Wednesday; we’ve ordered the antibiotics*. Of course, after a day home with S&F, gf_guruilla has cabin fever and wants to go hide herself.

My headache starts to return.

Then my dad calls, with another problem with the printer. He keeps opening up the print queue and trying to delete jobs when they don’t print fast enough for him. I get him to restart the computer, and everything starts printing. He’s happy. I’ll go down there Saturday to see what the real setup is. I think I should bring down SP2; if anyone needs it, he does.

And to top it off, it looks like the meal moths are back!

I shoulda stood in bed!

*: Why antibiotics? She had open heart surgery to fix an ASD at age 4. As a result, she always has antibiotics before dental work… and if she ever gets piercings, before piercings.

Ikea Update

An update on my earlier entry. We just finished eating dinner after our adventure with ellipticcurve at Ikea. Suffice it to say that we learned that Ikea (at least the Ikea in Burbank, California) does not believe in customer service. If an item was not self-service (i.e., most of their larger items), the wait to pick up the item was 4-5 HOURS. Yup. That’s right. We left Ikea at 5:30 PM, returned at 8:15 PM… and it item still wasn’t ready for pickup. It took Ellipticcurve having to go to the manger’s manager to get the item, and we walked out of there at 9:00 PM. This, of course, didn’t help the other 150 people that were still having around the waiting room. The manager2‘s response was essentially: wait, or come back tomorrow. No apologies, no offers of free shipping… nothing to actually show that the customer was the important party in the transaction. Suffice it to say that we won’t be going back to Ikea.

We did have a delightful dinner from Kabob House in Glendale. Kababs, rice, and baklava do a wonderful job of making one feel better.

Am I In My Right Mind?

Today, gf_guruilla, ellipticcurve, Small & Feisty, and I decided to take advantage of the Ikea “No Sales Tax” weekend, and do some shopping. Big mistake. The next time I believe it will be easy to go shopping on a holiday weekend… during a major sale… at the only Ikea in the San Fernando Valley… remind me of what I went through this weekend. Large crowds, and horrible parking pains. We still need to go back to pick up a “full-service” item that Ellipticcurve purchased, and hopefully it will be ready for pickup (only 2 hours after she paid for it).

Next, of course, comes the assembly of items. That’s why God invented Allen wrenches.

I Hate June!

Well, at least the middle of June, when all sorts of shit happens.

Last June, just before the last day of school, my daughter had a major league asthma attack (landing her in the hospital), I broke my foot (landing me at home for three months)— all on the day our kitchen remodeling started.

Today, I was dissed by our congregation, my wife had a car accident (which might have been setup—luckily, neither she nor my daughter were hurt), and my daughter spilled hot chocolate over herself. It was also the night of the congregational meeting, where the incoming leadership (many of whom were continuing in their positions) stated publically that they outgoing leadership couldn’t work together (before, from what I’m told, giving the outgoing folks awards for service).

Its not just me. ellipticcurve had a horrid day as well, as did some other friends of ours.

Just a sucky day. Hopefully, the “powers that be” have used up the vacuum.
